31
Release Notes:
grml 1.0 - codename <a
32 href="/faq/#releasename">Meilenschwein (20070518)

36
grml is a Debian-based Live-CD. It includes a collection of GNU/Linux
37 software especially for users of texttools and system administrators.
38 grml provides automatic hardware detection. You can use grml for example
39 as a rescue system, for analyzing systems/networks or as a working
40 environment. It is not necessary to install anything to a harddisk, you
41 don't even need a harddisk to run it, unless you want to (use grml2hd
42 for this). Due to on-the-fly decompression grml includes about 2.1 GiB
43 of software and documentation on the CD.

47
Fixed several bugs and issues reported on <a
48 href="http://wiki.grml.org/doku.php?id=grml_0.9">grml_0.9 @
53
Several improved, updated and extended configuration files.

55
New grml-scripts (some selected ones):

59
alignmargins: adjust the margins and the position of the printed contents on the paper
61
dirvish-setup: a simple script for setting up a basic configuration for the backup software dirvish
63
grml2ram: copy compressed GRML image to RAM when running grml already (based on contribution by Michael Schierl)
65
grml-quickconfig: get fast access to some basic grml-scripts (contributed by Michael Schierl)
67
grml-setservices interface for basic configuration of system startup/shutdown via /etc/runlevel.conf
69
gsuggest.pl: google suggest - ask google for keyword suggestions
71
iso-term: wrapper script to run x-terminal-emulator in iso885915 mode
75
New bootparameters/cheatcodes:

79
qemu: installs a default /etc/X11/xorg.conf (without having to run hardware detection)
81
debian2hd: install plain Debian via grml-debootstrap in automatic mode
85
grml2hd (install grml to harddisk):

89
support for Grub (now there's a dialog for selection between lilo and grub as bootloader)
91
use of UUID and /dev/disk/by-uuid/ by default (provides stable booting devices, very important for installation on external usb/firewire
94
use initrd/initramfs by default now
98
See grml.org/grml2hd/ for more
99 details regarding grml2hd.

101
grml-terminalserver (boot
102 grml via network)

105
better module loading
107
switch from tftpd-hpa to atftpd (resulting in big speedup)
111
See grml.org/terminalserver/
112 for more details regarding grml-terminalserver.

114
grml-debootstrap (install plain
115 Debian fast and easy)

118
support full automatic installation via debian2hd
119
use aptitude instead of apt-get in chroot-script
120
use of DEBIAN_FRONTEND='noninteractive' to avoid unnecessary questions when installing
121
support Debian release with codename 'lenny'
122
support stages (improves cancel/resume of operations)
123
support setting of some important variables via cmdline
124
improved error handling
127
See grml.org/grml-debootstrap/ for
128 more details regarding grml-debootstrap.

130
Special new features:

146 cpufrequeny scaling in favour of the ondemand-governor

157 href="http://deb.grml.org/pool/main/g/grml-mercurial-utils/">grml-mercurial-utils

184 regarding the grml-kernel.

186
Important Changes

188
UTF-8: grml uses UTF8 as
189 default encoding. You can deactivate UTF-8 environment via
190 booting with bootoption lang=$LANG-iso. Some software is not
191 yet UTF-8 aware (problem is located upstream, neither at Debian
192 or grml itself). More information about UTF-8 at grml can be
194 href="http://wiki.grml.org/doku.php?id=utf8">utf8 webpage in
195 the grml-wiki.

197
get_tw_cli / get_3ware: get_tw_cli has been
198 renamed into get_3ware as we support 3DM2 as well now.

200
fluxbox: the keybindings have been restored to
201 their original (fluxbox upstream) behaviour. Now Alt+F# switches
202 between the desktops, Alt+Shift+F# sends an application to another
203 desktop. If you want to get the old behaviour back you can use the zsh
204 function fluxkey-change.

206
Packages / Software
