35 <p>This release brings a downsizing and cleanup: one flavour, two architectures.
36 The new, smaller "FULL" flavour has a 350MB ISO size target, while still
37 delivering over 1.1GB of open source software relevant for system
44 <li>New Linux kernel version based on <b>3.1.4</b></li>
45 <li><b>EFI Boot</b> support from CD-ROM and USB keys (amd64 only)</li>
46 <li>mDNS support (try <tt>ping grml.local</tt> )</li>
47 <li>NFS Client support and d-bus start automatically</li>
51 <h4>Special new features:</h4>
55 <li><a href="/grml-debootstrap/">grml-debootstrap</a>, the tool of choice to install Debian,
56 can now directly build virtual machine images.</li>
58 <li><a href="/grml-live/">grml-live</a>, our build tool, was enhanced with new features to
59 allow for <a href="http://jenkins-ci.org/">Jenkins</a> integration.
60 This release, as well as the current <a href="/daily/">daily images</a>
61 are built from within Jenkins!</li>
66 <h3>Important Changes</h3>
69 <li>Z-Shell configuration has been cleaned up. Quite a few functions
70 <a href="http://git.grml.org/?p=grml-etc-core.git;a=history;f=etc/zsh/zshrc">have been removed</a>
71 from the default configuration.</li>
72 <li>X11 environment has been downsized as well. The window manager is
73 now fluxbox. idesk has been removed, all available software is now
74 reachable from the fluxbox menu.</li>
75 <li>The accessibility support now consists of shipping standard speakup
76 and enabling sound during boot. A new beep sequence (4 tones) is sounded
77 just before the quickconfig menu starts. (The boot options have been
79 <li>xterm now uses the Terminus font, like the VT consoles.</li>
80 <li>Virtual Machines automatically get the "noprompt" behaviour.</li>
81 <li>Ancient config files and examples have been removed from grml-etc(-core).</li>
82 <li>Ancient scripts have been removed from grml-scripts(-core).</li>
84 <li>Anonymous stats are collected during boot up. This includes: Grml release name,
85 boot media type (local or remote), a random string, used boot option keys
86 (no values) and if your CPU is 64bit-capable. You can turn this off with the
87 <b>nostats</b> boot option.</li>
90 <h3>Bits & bolts</h3>
93 <li>Modem support has been removed from grml-network</li>
94 <li>VT consoles are driven by grml-runtty, our homegrown login and getty
95 replacement for Live CDs.</li>
96 <li>Netboot scenarios should no longer use the "nodhcp" boot option.</li>
97 <li>grml2hd is no longer in PATH to discourage its use even further.
98 The related boot options have been removed.</li>
99 <li>grml2usb: compat for releases < 2009.05, grub1 and lilo support
100 have been removed.</li>
105 <p>Based on vanilla kernel 3.1.4. No additional modules are

152 <p><b>iSCSI Target</b> support is currently in limbo, as
153 the user land tools for the new in-kernel iSCSI target are not yet
154 in Debian unstable/testing and shipping the old iscsitarget modules
155 in binary form appears to be almost impossible with the new DKMS packaging.
